Sportsman RV Campground

Very rustic. There was no info available about where to go for assistance. Both the water and elec hook ups gave us trouble. Other campers were helpful and once we found the mgmt they did fix the problems.

Pretty weak campground. Lots of long term residents. The place is under an overpass and needs a good cleaning up. Upon check-in the clerk didn’t really acknowledge me. No sewers. Cheap enough for one night $40 but would look for a different campground if passing through again. Did have a showers and toilet but preferred to use the one in my coach.

I am only giving this a 1 star as I have to mark it to leave a review. This place is on the level of a homeless camp, bridge included. The other RV's are run down, ripped curtains, tinfoil on windows, etc... There is a ton of inside furniture that is used as outdoor furniture. It is a very run down, filthy place. Truck beds overflowing with empty beer bottles. Trash all over the ground. Dirty bathrooms. Junk piled up along the outside of most of the long term RV's. The atmosphere of the place is that of "you're going to be robbed of everything if you take your eyes off of your belongings". No one said hi. They just peeked around their campers and cars to stare. The sites are not level at all. The water lines had old shirts taped around them, for what purpose...I have no idea. I must admit that the manager was accommodating and refunded our stay, without argument. He did ask how to improve the place. Maybe it will improve, but, for now, this place is not wjat it is pictured to be.

Enjoyed my time here. Friendly staff. Great location next to the river. The construction of the bridge is complete, so the noise is a non-issue now. This is a perfect location if you are travelling through and need an inexpensive overnight option and don't want to boondock.

Was a disgusting place to stay we left early because the RV next to us look like it had been there for years there were dogs and cats hanging around the RV there was a puddle of water coming from the septic that was smelly and disgusting. People started drinking it 8:00 in the morning. Will not be coming back there needs a lot of work done grass was not mowed the whole RV Park look trashy

The staff was very friendly, it’s just off the interstate and the river access is nice

Didn’t even stay!! The place was a disgusting mess and felt very uncomfortable. Found out by locals it is a dangerous place. Huge loss and waste of money! Needs to be shut down and reported to the BBB! Don’t book there!!!!

Beautiful place to stay. River and view were nice to look at. Nice store and fuel on premises. Restroom was a joke. Couldn’t use the toilet or shower, filthy. If sanitation was better would stay again.

Worst, most disgusting campground imaginable. (-10)Raw sewage coming out of the pipes (taped together😳) in the site we were SUPPOSED to stay at #5. Running into the NEW RIVER. The stench will make you vomit. The deplorable dilapidated campers and the excessive trash. Yes I CALLED THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT! You can look it up in 7days @ department of health (Montgomery County) Shame on the owners and renters (trash at sites.) I know I won’t get my money back but I hope I save many others from spending theirs.

Very disappointed with the overall experience, not sure where to start. 1) showed up and the place was no maintained, trash everywhere, looked like an episode of breaking bad. 2) went to find someone to check in and was a gas station attendant that had no idea what was going on. Finally got some one in the phone and gave us a spot. We pulled in and the camper next to ours had trash piled up, broke cars up on blocks. Purpose was to have a place to stop for the night and keep driving. I didn’t feel safe, and the place was a dump. We pulled out and drove an hr north to a koa. This looked more of a run down full time trailer park than a camp ground. AVOID at all costs

Mostly long term residents. Problem with septic, smells like sewage. Bathrooms are run down and filthy. Not taken care of.

I booked for a month from Indiana for $700, and when I arrived was not impressed with the campground. There is trash all over the place, broken down vehicles and the shower/restrooms were filthy and falling apart.

Is it possible to leave ZERO stars?? Dump. Disgusting. Disturbing. DON’T!!! Trash & furniture in front of trailers that are clearly there for the long term. Broken down cars, beer cans, broken concrete, etc. Bathrooms are gross & unusable!!! They charge a $50 cleaning deposit but obviously do no cleaning. Perhaps for $50 this is a hidden gem as it is on the New River but the negatives outweigh the positives at this “campground”. The obvious noise from the highway is loud & ongoing construction is noted in the description. There are other places to stay in the area & I recommend you check them out. We made a snap decision to stay here without researching first. We stayed as it was too late to change course. A one night stay was enough time to determine we would never return. Sadly, I am unable to post pictures but trust me. This place should be razed.

Our host was more than pleasant. The campground was really bad, no really level sites. Had to try to make it work. The campers were slobs, garbage thrown outside campers. 1pickup truck bed filled to top with beer bottles, and he left early for work! Could be a road hazard?? Oh yeah. Our host stayed with us for the whole time helping us to try to level up. Glad it was only 1 night.

If you are just looking for a place to stay for a few days it’s ok. It’s clean but the traffic from highway is loud

The fresh water faucet for the spot I reserved was being used by another camper because his was not working. definitely not conducive to family with kids. Bathhouse is filthy with spiders all over the place. no one cleaned the bathhouse while we were there a week. the general ground is clean but the people that lives there permanently/long term does not pick up after their pets. Many long term residents RVs are in desperate need of repairs. they required 100 dollar deposit for electricity and 50 dollar deposit for cleaning.

Perfect spot for an over night. Right off the highway and along the river. Easy in and out with full hookups.

If all you want is a place to pull over and sleep, this will do. No WiFi - bathrooms are primitive and the guy in charge barely speaks English and not interested in being a helpful host. We prepaid but didn’t stay. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

Very accessible and easy to get in and out of. The view was great and we were right on the river. A little noisy due to proximity to bridge traffic but still worth the stay.

This was much to be desired. First they need to get rid of the filth, most of the campers looked like they had been their for years with no up keep. When we arrived the store owner informed us that our site was not available because some of the sites were taken by individuals working on the pipe line. Moved us to a different site which noticing on the site was actually cheaper, without compensation. The guy in the camper next to us was a MAJOR alcoholic, the front of his camper/site was littered with beer bottles, beer cases. The bed of his truck was full of beer bottles and other trash (surprised he has been pulled over for this). As we started to unpack we noticed that the faucet for tab water was missing a plug on the bottom so we could hook up our hose. Went up to the store and the owner told me I could use the camper next us faucet because he never used water (gross). His faucet was doing the same thing. Thankfully the camper on the other side of us let us split off and use their faucet. The bath house was absolutely disgusting. No one has cleaned that thing in YEARS. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Was very rundown, directly under the expressway overpass, VERY noisy! Do not recommend.

Positives-The campground was close to the freeway (good for us since it was a one night stay), so noisy. It had a pretty view of a large pond. Negatives-The site was not level at all, took us an hour to get set up and we’ve been doing this for 20+ years. The full time campers were cluttered with junk, very unsightly. The restroom/shower house was disgusting.
